HAMBURG MUSIC FESTIVAL

Saturday April 30th, 2011 was a busy day for the quiet little suburban town of Hamburg, NY. It was the day of this years annual Music Festival. By all accounts it was a tremendous success! The Festival was started by local businessmen to raise awareness of local music talent, as well as to raise funds for local youth music programs. With school budgets tightening they're belts in recent years, one of the first programs defunded are frequently music and sports. For $10 you receive a purple wristband which gives you access to 19 bands and performers, performing throughout the day and night, at various locals in the town, and village of Hamburg. The funds are donated to help support music programs locally.

In terms of "bang for your buck" entertainment value, it's allfully hard to beat the Music Fest. You can walk up and down Main st, Buffalo st, and other locals further away from the heart of town and see any band you want. Bands as diverse as Classic Rock, Jazz, Folk, Country, and Pop. Of course or own Scot Koepka and his band Word of Mouth were present. They played 2 shows. The first, the student showcase at the Palace movie theater, which consisted of high school age bands. And, later in the evening a more extensive gig at the Now pizzera.

Another good friend of ours Frank Gerard and his quartet, featuring the "lovely and talented" Brenda on vocals, were playing at Murphy's Station. They play a regular Wednesday nite gig there, and in true Jazz style often have people sitting in with them. My son Noah D'Innocenzo on guitar among them. Frank is the top guitar teacher in western New York. My son and I both take lessons from him. If you want to know your stuff on guitar, call Frank at Park Ridge Music; (716) 828 - 1139. Frank is not only an amazing teacher and player, he's also one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet.
In closing, this years Hamburg Music Festival was a good time and a great success. Hopefully we wil see you there next year!
